OLDSKOOL horsemove

Frank gave me this cool picture of the HorseMove-Mural I did a year ago. The black tower on top is Arik Visser's work. You can also see some of the controversial Anne Frank-stencils. I don't know whose little yellow car is featured but it must be a great artist because it gave this photo the finishing touch.

OLDSKOOL 1998/2000

This typeface is called SILVERTAPE. It's loosely based on 1950's windowlettering. It's also the first working typeface I ever designed. I can remember that the pilot of this was done with CORELDRAW on a 468 Windows (3.11!!)-machine. The face was used to make up the IXOPUSADA logo.

IXOPUSADA was a small culty-arty-collective of several students. I founded IXOPUSADA together with Floor in 1998 and we used the name to sign our work up untill 2004. Floor still uses the name, so I can't tell you what IXOPUSADA stands for....it's still a secret!

I promise I'll tell you more about it in the future!

OLDSKOOL 2001

While still on the Rietveld I released a serie of small booklets. This is one of them called 'systems'. It is based on military imagery. Click on the image to see an animated gif.

OLDSKOOL 2002

In 2002 I made some stickers about the debate whether Dutch troops should go towards Iraq or not (thereby supporting the 'you-are-either-with-us-or-against-us'-doctrine. The sign the guy's holding says 'maybe'.

OLDSKOOL 2004

This is a Ex-Libris sticker I designed for Floor Wesseling for his birthday in 2004. Of all the people I worked with this is the only person I can truly call my soulmate. We go a long way (somewhere from 1994) and have studied, pioneered and worked together on numerous projects. I will show more stuff we've done on this blog in the future.

We have a shared history in grafitti (hence the Edding-marker) and I decided to combine this with Floor's personal credo:"Veel hebben monds genoegh iemands werk te laken, maar niet welhands genoegh iets beters zelf te maken, het zeggen is maar wind ik houde wel van doen (A lot of people have the mouth to criticize one's work but not the hands to create themselve, talking is just air, I prefer to act)".

The red infinity/period-symbol is the personal logo Floor uses to sign his work.

Looking back I kind of regret it that I didn't use a brand new Edding-marker because the point is somewhat blunt and I think the round text-path didn't work out that well....still like it though.

OLDSKOOL 2004

Logo and identity for NGO 'StadsSpelen'. StadsSpelen organizes the alternative 'Olympic Games of Amsterdam'. The identity was never sold because of financial issues. I consider it as both my biggest failure (because it was never realised) and biggest turnover in my design (working with 3d-programming and using self-made types).
